What would happen if you stopped eating and still training? You would probably not train for one week. We eat to nourish our bodies and to improve performances in specific aspects of our lives. Our bodies are like machines and they need to be fed properly. Good nutrition is fueling the body with the correct amount of food, best quality and at the right time. Under Nourishing is when you do not take the required amount of food. Most Sportspeople do not take keen interest on proper nutrition and that negatively affects their Sports performance.

As a sports person I know match days are the most important days of the season. You need energy but you also do not want to be bloated or left feeling very heavy or constipated which might affect your performance. We have said your nutrition highly impacts your performance. The main focus on this day is what to eat and what time to eat. Most times sports people will need to carb load and hydrate days to the match day to store enough glycogen and to avoid dehydration on the actual day. Eat enough carbohydrates a few days to the event to make sure we have enough stores since you cannot eat much on the actual day. Some of the carbs to consume 24 hours- 48 hours’ prior the game include rice, sweet potatoes, arrowroots, pasta and potatoes. Continue reading “MATCH DAY NUTRITION”

Post-Game Meal

What happens once you finish your trip? You immediately check on your fuel gauge and refuel. During sports events just like a trip your nutrient stores are depleted and your body needs to recover and replenish. The strenuous games deplete glycogen stores, cause electrolyte imbalances through sweating and muscles are fatigued. The main aim is to rehydrate, rebuild and restore balance to the body. You may notice that you even lose a few kilograms especially for events longer than 60 minutes.

Sweetened Hydration

A good mechanic will always recommend additional products to use for your vehicle to boost its performance. Fueling your car alone is not enough. You must introduce lubricants like engine oil and other additives for optimum engine performance like Octane Booster. Just like the vehicle, your body needs additional sources of hydration that contain substances that will improve your performance.

Whether you are on the tracks competing or practicing, your main concern as an athlete is to remain appropriately hydrated, with water being the frequently used substance. However, is water the only source of hydration?
